Main Research Goals
Determine how cyclists utilize maps and get directions for their rides
Determine how cyclists navigate adverse road conditions
Determine how cyclists interact within their local cycling community and with other cyclists
Determine what apps or resources cyclists currently use for their navigation and/or general cycling needs
Determine the most common frustrations cyclists encounter while commuting on their bike
Learn about real life experiences where a cyclist was put in danger because of an adverse road conditions
Determine what cyclists do with their mobile phones while on their bike. Where do they carry it?
Determine how cyclists currently report adverse road conditions (or if they do at all)
For each interview, I will collect the following information:
Age
Gender
Location
Occupation
Type of phone they use
Interview Questions:
Tell me about your current cycling habits/lifestyle
Do you cycle to work? For fun/recreation? To run errands?
How long have you been actively cycling?
Why did you originally start cycling?
How many times a week do you cycle?
Do you own your own bike or rent one?
If they own a bike, what kind of bike is it (road bike, fixie, mountain bike etc.)
Do you cycle all year round?
If no, why not?
Describe what you enjoy most about cycling
Tell me about a recent frustrating or negative experience you encountered while cycling
If you are cycling to a destination that you haven’t been before, what steps do you take before you hop on your bike?
If needed, ask more questions around what they use for navigation/directions
What current apps do you utilize to support your cycling lifestyle?
Do you utilize any apps while actively on your bicycle?
Do you get involved with your local cycling community? If yes, how?
Can you tell me about a recent experience where you encountered adverse road conditions while on your bicycle?
Have you ever gotten lost while cycling somewhere? What happened and how did you get back on track?
