ZEIT Usability Test Plan

Author: Mary Schwab

Test Objectives:

  • Determine the usability of the Search function

  • Determine the ease of filtering on category pages

  • Determine if users can save an experience for later viewing

  • Determine if a user can log into their existing account and complete a booking of a previously saved experience (for two people)

Test Subject:

  • A high fidelity ZEIT prototype will be used via the InvisionApp.

Test Methodology:

  • Mary Schwab will be the facilitator and will be taking notes throughout the test.

  • With the user’s permission, the facilitator will use audio recording during each test.

  • Users will test the ZEIT prototype in person on the facilitator’s laptop.

Participants:

  • 5-7 participants (men and women) between the ages of 25 and 50, who have previous experience booking travel online.

Recruiting Plan:

  • Participants will be family, friends and coworkers of the facilitator.

  • Each participant will be asked to commit around 15 minutes of their time for the usability test.

Script Procedure:

  • Thank you for taking the time to test the usability of Zeit.com, a new time travel booking site.  This test should take no more than 15 minutes.  This ZEIT prototype is not completely built out, so some links and features will not be clickable.  Please remember this is not a test of your skills and abilities, but rather a test of the ease of use of Zeit.com.  There are no right or wrong answers or actions, so please do what seems natural to you!  I will now give you a few task scenarios to complete.  Please remember to think out loud as you navigate throughout these tasks.

  • Tasks, Errands

    • You’ve just landed on Zeit.com for the first time, and aren’t sure what type of time travel experience you are looking for, so you want to browse through all the time travel experiences that ZEIT has to offer.

    • You’re browsing through all the time travel experiences ZEIT has to offer, and decide that it would be fun to travel back in time to get a sense of everyday life experiences, similar to events a local might experience in past civilizations. Narrow down the results to view these type of experiences.

    • You have recently been watching a lot of season 4 of The Crown on Netflix.  You decide you want to see if ZEIT has a time travel experience for London in the 1960’s

    • You are interested in the London in the Swinging 60’s experience, but not ready to book it yet.  You want to see if any of your friends are interested in joining you.  You would like to easily come back to this experience at a later date.

    • After chatting with your friend Mark and telling him about what you found on Zeit.com, he decides that he wants to come along with you to time travel back to London in the Swinging 60’s.  Reserve this time travel experience for you and your friend Mark in early March 2020.

  • Test Goals

    • User is able to View All Experiences and filter that page

    • User is able to search for an experience, view it, and save it to their (existing) account for later

    • User is able to log into their (existing) account, view their saved experience and book it for two people in March 2020

  • Test Completion Rate

    • The goal is that 100% of users will be able to complete these three tasks to completion.

  • Error-Free Rate

    • The goal is that 75% of users will be able to complete these three tasks with no errors or hiccups.
